Countdown to Dubai Women’s Triathlon Organizing Committee Gears Up for sixth Edition on October 22!

Registration for the Triathlon is open until October 15 on the Dubai Sports Council website.

Dubai, October 4, 2023: In anticipation of the launch of the sixth edition of the Dubai Women’s Triathlon, the organising committee spearheading the pioneering women-only event in the region convened a coordination meeting at Dubai Ladies Club.

This gathering, attended by representatives from key government agencies, was dedicated to finalising the preparations and arrangements for the event’s imminent kick-off. Scheduled for Sunday, October 22, this distinguished race, a collaborative effort by the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Ladies Club, encompasses three invigorating sports: swimming, cycling, and running.

The triathlon is open to women of all nationalities above the age of 15, and they can participate individually or collectively by forming teams. Registration is available through Dubai Sports Council’s official website until October 15.

The meeting assessed the collaborative efforts of key government agencies, such as Dubai Police, RTA, and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. They discussed race route organisation and road closures for cycling and running in Jumeirah street and Dubai Water Canal areas, aligning with the event’s schedule.

Leading by example

Naeema Ahli, Acting CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, applauded Dubai Ladies Club for hosting the Dubai Women Triathlon for six consecutive years in partnership with Dubai Sports Council. She highlighted its alignment with the leadership’s vision to empower women in sports, emphasising the commitment to foster their local and international participation.

Naeema Ahli stated: “Dubai Women’s Triathlon embodies the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to enhance women’s meaningful engagement in sports in the UAE and the World. And over five editions, it has become a highly anticipated annual sporting event, drawing keen interest from female athletes and enthusiasts alike.”

She also commended the invaluable contributions of government partners, highlighting their pivotal role in ensuring the annual event’s success and their dedication to upholding Dubai’s reputation as a top-ranking host for sporting events.

Ali Omar Alblooshi, Director of Sports Development at Dubai Sports Council, spoke passionately about the Dubai Women’s Triathlon, highlighting its significance as a premier event dedicated to women on the council’s annual calendar. He emphasised its role in inspiring women to embrace sports, fostering competition, and showcasing the pivotal role of women in sports.

He said: “Reflecting on the past five years, the Dubai Women’s Triathlon has enjoyed remarkable success. This achievement was a collective effort, with strong support from dedicated partners who prioritised the safety and security of the participants. I am confident that the triathlon will achieve even greater success this year.”

Unified efforts

The partner government agencies’ collaborative efforts seamlessly integrate before, during, and after the event. Dubai Police ensures a dedicated convoy for bicycle race security along Jumeirah Road. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) handles road occupation logistics, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services deploys equipped vehicles and a female lifeguard team to oversee the participants from Dubai Ladies Club’s beach to Jumeirah Beach road’s cycling route.

Three-part competition

The women participating in the Dubai Women Triathlon can participate in one of three categories: Super Sprint, Sprint, or the accredited Olympic distance. In the Super Sprint category, they will compete in a 400m swim, a 10km cycle, and a 2.5km run. In the Sprint category, participants will compete in a 750m swim, a 20km cycle, and a 5km run. On the other hand, Participants in the accredited Olympic distance category will swim 1.5 km, cycle 40km, and run 10km.
